Odyssey Sensors is an innovative and dynamic company that is focused on designing and delivering affordable, reliable and simple-to-use hardware for optimizing water management on Australian farms. Utilizing LoRa and working in partnership with agriculture software company – AgriWebb – Odyssey Sensors is well placed to capitalize on the significant opportunities that exist for farmers to employ the Internet of Things on their properties in Australia.


Odyssey Sensors was established and is registered in the UK. It is a certified B Corp. The company was founded by students from Oxford University and has won multiple awards and grants including the Oxford University Tata Idea Idol Entrepreneurship competition, the Skoll Social Venture Award and the Blue Economy Challenge. The company, with staff members in the US, UK and Australia, is in the early stage of building its operations in Australia.


About the role

Odyssey Sensors seeks a Full Stack Developer who is passionate about working with and building cutting edge tech solutions for Australian farmers. The person will work in close collaboration with product engineers in the US and will have significant responsibility for leading front-end software development, including UI / UX for the Tank Sentry. This will include leading in-field testing, product modifications and improvements. The role provides significant autonomy and flexibility, as well as huge opportunities to grow with the company. This role will begin as a contract position but is envisioned to provide the opportunity to transition to full-time in the future. The role will require travel (20%+) to farms in rural Australia where the products are being delivered and tested.



  • Work closely with the leadership team to build a product that is ready to execute in the market
  • Lead UI / UX development and work closely with farmers in the process
  • Support in-field R&D efforts, including alpha and beta product testing
  • Support the technical development of current and new sensors and sensor networks
  • Work with product early adopters, customers, and market partners to gain feedback from the field to improve product performance
  • Nurture current relationships and establish new ones with prospective customers and partners
  • Closely monitoring and conduct analysis of product performance


We’re looking for someone who

  • Is excited to work on cutting edge agriculture technology
  • Loves building products and is an actively engaged in the software development community
  • Has good experience working with HTML, CSS and Javascript
  • Has working knowledge of Java, Python, SQL database (postgres), NOSQL – MongoDB and MQTT
  • Has a good working knowledge in the Internet of Things (IoT) space
  • Has 3+ years of work experience developing software for distributed systems and networks – knowledge of LoRa technology a plus
  • Has a solid understanding and appreciation for alpha and beta testing
  • Is comfortable with the demands of an early stage company
  • Is keen to spend time in rural Australia and work closely with farmers
  • Enjoys working independently with limited supervision
  • Relentlessly focuses on making products easier for people to use
