Odyssey Sensors is an innovative and dynamic start-up that is focused on designing and delivering affordable, reliable and simple-to-use hardware for improving water management on Australian farms. Utilizing LoRa and working in partnership with agriculture software company – AgriWebb – Odyssey Sensors is developing Internet of Things technology that can help Australian farmers save time and money. The company, which was founded and registered in the UK, is currently in the early stage of building its operations in Australia.


About the role

Odyssey Sensors seeks an Electronics Technician to support product development, testing and in-field roll out of the Tank Sentry. This person will work closely with product engineers and will have significant responsibility for leading in-field alpha and beta product testing, as well as supporting installation and maintenance of products for new customers. The role provides significant autonomy and flexibility, as well as opportunities to grow with the company. This role will begin as a casual position but is envisioned to transition to a full-time position in the near future. The role will require significant travel (50%+) to farms in rural Australia where the products are being delivered and tested.



  • Lead in-field installation, monitoring and maintenance of Odyssey Sensors flagship product – the Tank Sentry
  • Support R&D engineering efforts including alpha and beta testing to commercialize and iterate on products
  • Lead development and testing of mesh networks using LoRa
  • Initiate and maintain contact with product early adopters, customers, and market partners to gain feedback from the field to improve product performance
  • Provide suggestions and advice to engineering team on continuous product improvements
  • Nurture current relationships and establish new ones with prospective customers and partners


What we’re looking for

  • Someone with good working and practical knowledge in electrical or radio engineering, including the ability to assemble devices and diagnose problems in-field
  • Someone who has a good working knowledge in the Internet of Things (IoT) space
  • Someone with experience managing commercial hardware
  • Someone who is willing to spend a large portion of their time in rural areas and is able to get the job done with minimal supervision
  • Someone who enjoys getting their hands dirty and tinkering with hardware to get it working
  • Someone who is passionate about developing cutting edge technology for Australian farmers


Preferred qualifications

  • Relevant qualifications in electronics or radio engineering
  • Familiarity in working with LoRa
  • Experience working on farms and communicating with people working in the agriculture sector
  • 2+ years work experience
  • Experience working with early stage companies
